5 New Years Resolutions for your twenties you’ll actually keep

1. Follow your dreams

You’re in your twenties now and up until this point you’ve probably always taken advice from a mixture of your parents, family and friends. 2019 is about making your own decisions about where your passions lie and what you want to spend your time doing. Think about the things that give you joy when you experience them. It could be blogging, writing, photography, sport, a business. These things don’t necessarily have to make you money but they are absolutely crucial to your happiness and wellbeing. Aim to devote your free time to following those dreams.

2. Network, Network, Network

Every person you meet has a story to tell and is a specialist in some sort of area. You may not realise that someone you meet this year could help you with something crucial in the future, maybe a year away, 5 or even 10 years time. Value the people you meet this year and don’t just rely on your current connections. As you change and grow, those around you must change and grow with you and this involves taking on board new friends/colleagues/additions to the family.

3. Spend more time with your loved ones

Just like allowing new people into your life is crucial, so too is cherishing the ones that have got you to where you are today. Set aside time in your busy life to make memories with close family and friends. Working overtime at the office will NOT be some thing you look back on in 5 years time and remember fondly. Make memories, and make lots of them.

4. Travel more

They say travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer. Invest in you and your experiences. You will NEVER look back and wish you didn’t see that city or party in that country or meet those new people. While you’re still young, and have less commitments, do all you can to travel and see different places.

5. Try new things

You’re extremely lucky (although some may disagree) if you know exactly what you want to do and where your life is heading in your twenties. Most twenty-somethings see this period as a big game of trial and error. This is the time to take that new job, try that new course, give running a go, paint, sing, experiment. It’ll help you find what is you love to do.

P.S. Here’s one of me celebrating the start of 2019, what I hope and trust will be a beautiful year.
