GOOD MOOD FOOD REVIEW – Bistro Franc, Hanover Street, Liverpool

This is the start of a brand new series I’ve called ‘Good Mood Food Reviews’, where I’ll be giving you the low down on the latest restaurants and bars I’ve been to and where you should be heading to next. I strongly believe that food should put you in a good mood and my stomach would be able to vouch for that too! So I’ll only be sharing the bits that I love.

First up is a restaurant that I have been wanting to try for a very long time. Having been brought up as half French, I absolutely adore French cuisine and there’s no better place to find this than Bistro Franc on Hanover Street in Liverpool. I was kindly invited to try out their food menu with my boyfriend who, claims he isn’t but, is actually an extremely fussy eater. This opportunity was gifted, but I was under no obligation to post a full review.

We were greeted with a friendly smile and offered a seat at the high top tables by the window, so you could look out over Hanover Street. The decor inside is so quaint it almost like you’ve popped over on the Eurostar to Paris.

As I’ve grown up as a little Frenchie my tipple of choice is a Kir Royal which is Creme Cassis (Blackcurrant) and Prosecco, a must try if you’ve never had one before, I think I was drinking them from around the age of 7… you know what the French are like!

Yes, this had to be in capitals because where actually offers this nowadays? It’s totally normal to expect this in France but in the UK it’s rare you’ll get given anything free as an appetiser. My boyfriend even asked for additional bread as he wasn’t feeling like any of the starters and they were more than happy to give him some more! Result!

Mussels (my mum always said eating them would give me actual muscles)

I absolutely love mussels but feel like they aren’t filling enough for a main course so opted for their starter size portion and it was perfect. The creamy sauce they were in was so delicious I even scooped it up with a spoon at the end. Would highly recommend if you’re into seafood.

Main course

My Mami (French Grandmother) makes the best boeuf bourguignon in the world but this one comes in at a close second. Not far removed from the native ‘Scouse’ dish, I enjoyed how tender the beef was although left the pickled onions as I’m a whimp. In the middle of the dish was a large helping of gratin dauphinois which is basically sliced potato with cream, butter, cheese and onion. One of my most favourite things on the planet! My boyfriend had the beef fillet steak which came with a whole side plate of veg, gratin dauphinois and sliced new potatoes.

We manage to squeeze in some room for dessert and again the menu did not disappoint…

Cheesecake is my boyfriends devil food, just look at that portion size! Whilst I am partial to a crumble and custard. Although, I’m not sure how French that is because the French actually call custard ‘English Cream’, don’t believe me? Google it.

So all in all a fabulous experience at Bistro Franc, the service was second to none and the atmosphere was perfect. The location of the restaurant is super handy as well being just off the main highstreet in Liverpool. If you’re looking for a really hearty meal and are bored of the same old pub-grub I would definitely head over to Bistro Franc, you will be well looked after!

A reminder that this opportunity was gifted but I was under no obligation to post. Despite this, I had wanted to visit this restaurant for a while and thankfully it didn’t disappoint!
